Aalto

AALTO IS A FINNISH WOMENSWEAR BRAND
BASED IN PARIS THAT PROPOSES A SOPHISTICATED WARDROBE WITH A NON – CONFORMIST ATTITUDE.

Born from designer Tuomas Merikoski’s curiosity to explore the constant rivalry between the raw and the elegant, it merges the honest, unfiltered essence of Finnish youth with French refinement.
The pieces are designed to offer comfort in everyday wear while keeping an elegant look. They often contrast technical, sporty cuts with traditional, high end fabrics.

Founded in 2014, Aalto holds two fashions shows a year as part of the official schedule of Paris Fashion

The brand has won recognition by being a finalist of both the LVMH and ANDAM prizes in 2016, and the ANDAM prize again in 2017.

AALTO is the latest brand added to our selection from the FW19 season. Our picks include their long, pleated denim, Finlaand printed tees and hoodies with some knitwear and turtleneck longsleeves. Here are few words of the new collection from the brand’s designer Tuomas Merikoski.

”The AALTO AW19 collection, entitled FINLAAND, celebrates the unique type of beauty that is born when cultures meet, clash and intertwine. My muses have been the non-conformist, strong and independent women breaking the moulds of clichés to form their notion of beauty—a new, hybrid voice nourished by an infinity of cultural influences.”

”In Finland, my homeland, I can hear this strong new voice surrounding me and providing a never-ending source of inspiration. It is in Helsinki that I first came across Xafsa, Fatima, Sahra and Aisha—young women forging their own identities, mixing traditions that are only seemingly on the opposite poles: the oriental and the occidental; the modest and the extravagant; the age-old and the of-the-moment. I continue to admire the way they merge the best of both worlds to become embodiments of beauty nourished by diversity.”

”The varsity-style FINLAAND logo is a twisted version of AALTO’s roots. Upon scanning, the QR code in this letter will reveal the 3rd issue of the ARKISTO fanzine, which develops and expands the ideas of which I have only scratched the surface here. On the pages of the fanzine, the founder of astrology app Co-Star discuss a different kind of constellations—not cultural, but celestial— and their influence on our inner universe. World–famous Finnish conductor, Esa-Pekka Salonen, delves on the new musical quality emerging from the contrast of classical music and modern technology”
